Festival des Métiers unlocks the poetic and unique crafts that are the essence of the house of Hermès, as their craftspeople reveal the mastery of their métiers. Visitors will see the famous Hermès silk scarf printed before their eyes and to rhythmic sounds of the artisans’ tools, handbags, watches, fine-jewellery and other iconic objects from Hermès will be brought to life during the course of the exhibition.
Festival des Métiers arrives in London from China where it has been exhibited in Beijing and Shenyang, after London it will travel to Düsseldorf. The exhibition is presented in a contemporary setting by acclaimed designer Paola Navone.
It is a great portal into the heart of a fashion house that is famous for their quality and excellence. Hermès' artisans will be onhand to explain and interact with the public as they create the iconic Hermès silk scarf print along with nine other luxury products such as bags, watches, ties and fine jewelry. If you are going to invest in buying into a heritage brand such as Hermès, knowing how they create the pieces is a brilliant insight into what you are buying.
Hermès production will be, for a short time, tangible for the public and it will be a breath of fresh air from instant fashion. It gives a sense of appreciation, and not expectation, which online fashion has conditioned us to expect.
Admission to Festival des Métiers is free and open to the public from 21 May – 27 May 2013 at the Saatchi Gallery, Duke of York’s HQ, King’s Road, Chelsea, London SW3 4RY
